Kayla's Reflection

Prior to this project, I had very little knowledge about what I was capable of in regards to policy-making. Now, towards the end of Project Citizen, I have learned that it is possible for ANY citizen to take control, voice their opinions about a topic they feel strongly about, and enact a change in government policy.

In the past, I had very strongly labeled myself as a pro-choice believer. However, when completing research for this assignment and discovering new facts that I had previously overlooked, I realized that I no longer supported such a strong view in support of the pro-choice mentality. While I was not necessarily pro-life, I began to support some of their ideals, which left me feeling lost somewhere in the middle. This is when Project Citizen allowed me to realize that social issues, like abortion, do not have to be black and white situations, there is room for discrepancies among the ideologies and the beliefs supporting these issues are a spectrum that you can line up on wherever you feel most comfortable.

I think the most important thing that I have gained from Project Citizen is that I have the power to make a change in New Jersey. Project Citizen has made me grow as a student and a citizen and I’m so thankful that I had the opportunity to work on such an inspiring project with such an amazing team.
